New Book Never Settle for Less Exposes the Harsh Realities
of Gender Discrimination and the Legal System
July 17, 2025 – Denver, CO and Boston, MA – Outskirts Press is proud to announce the release of Never Settle for Less by Dr. Marjorie C. McMillan, a gripping true story that sheds light on the emotional toll and strategic complexity of suing for gender discrimination and equal pay in America’s legal system. Part legal drama, part inspirational memoir—and deeply enriched by a profound human-animal bond—this book delivers both empowerment and insight for women navigating workplace injustice.
When Dr. McMillan, a respected veterinarian and department head, discovered that her salary was significantly lower than her male counterparts, she demanded equal pay for equal work. In retaliation, she was abruptly fired—escorted out of the hospital while a dog lay under anesthesia in her care. What followed was a landmark gender discrimination lawsuit that would help shape Massachusetts employment law.
Told with candor and resilience, Never Settle for Less takes readers inside the harrowing world of civil litigation—its gamesmanship, its emotional whiplash and its moral complexity. With the unwavering support of her Labrador retriever, Dr. McMillan not only survived the ordeal but triumphed, setting a precedent for others to follow.
“Litigation is not for the faint of heart…But in the midst of the storm, there is clarity—and sometimes, redemption.”
A timely read in an era of ongoing challenges to women’s rights, Never Settle for Less offers a roadmap for women pursuing justice and equality in hostile professional landscapes.
